Personal & Service History

Employment Status Civilian
Warrant Officer/NCO Rating
Personal History Kamea literally grew up trilingual though its been said that as a very young child, she tended to speak as though all three were just one language. She grew up in grew up in Hanalei on the north shore of Kauai. Steeped in history and famous for its art galleries, Hanalei was made famous as the site for Roger and Hammerstein's musical, "South Pacific."

For the most part, with an extensive family, Kamea was never short of job opportunities or potential boyfriends -- thanks to her Mother and to the Aunties who all saw it as their life's mission to find partners for anyone not yet married.
She had a great childhood and spent as much of it as she could on the water. Growing up in a collaborative environment, where the children worked alongside the adults in the family, she developed a strong respect for hana (work) and if asked, she would say -- E ho Ľohuli ka lima i lalo (the palms of the hands should be turned down) -- meaning idleness is something to be avoided, a saying that had been drilled into the mindset of generations of her family. As Hawaiian children do, she helped in the classroom, helped at home, and as she grew older, helped the various cousins, aunties, and uncles.

In preparation for a career in law enforcement, she attended Chaminade University of Honolulu. To earn her way, Kamea was certified as a lifeguard and worked part-time during the semester and then full-time holidays and summer. And while she was homesick at first, she soon grew to love the freedom afforded to her by living away from home for the first time in her life. She made friends and as ever, worked hard.

When she turned twenty, she joined the Honolulu Police Department and kept taking classes at night. The progress toward her degree would be slower but the chance to earn money while getting started on her chosen career seemed worth it. During her first year on the force, she proved to be good at making connections and uncovered a small group of home-grown terrorists who were planning an attack using low-tech means (flying under the government's more sophisticated systems). She presented the evidence she had collected and was part of the team that raided the cell's hideout; she was promoted to detective in recognition of her actions.
