Episode: S1E1: Back to Basic
Location: INV3 Roe’s Office
Timeline: 3 MAY 2021, 0930

There had been enough time to drop her bags in her hotel room and change into something that didn't look slept in. Black pants, black tank top and a muted blue, v-necked pullover, low enough to show a bit of the top beneath, with the long-sleeves pushed up to her elbows. She brushed out her black hair and left it loose, then headed for the office.

She was slender for her height, spare her mother called it, and she moved with a sort of fluid grace, a combination of natural agility and a knack for slipping through crowds, handy when you lived and worked around tourists who seldom noticed anything. From the lobby to the third floor, a quick check in at reception, and before long, she found herself at the door of one Kevin Roe.

As the door was open, she knocked on the frame and waited to be recognized.

Kevin was busy on the phone discussing some random protocol with the police supervisor that was currently on duty. He happened to glance up as he realized his coffee mug was unfortunately empty still.

He waved the woman in and motioned to a chair as he finished up on the phone, "alright thanks ME1, I appreciate it." He hung up the phone and turned his attention back to the agent.

"Sorry about that."

"Not a problem," she said as she slid into the chair and tucked her feet beneath her, crossed at the ankles. "My name's Kamea ... Kamea Kai? I was told to report in."

"Ah yes, one of our new agents," he said. "Though I suppose that all of us are new to the team. I'm Chief Warrant Officer 3 Kevin Roe the Supervisory Special agent," he said, rising from his chair and offering her his hand to shake. "Forgive me but I didn't even have access to the team roster this morning... could you fill me in?"

"Finished probation in Alameda," Kamea said. "Was just about to renew my lease when I got orders to report here instead. Got to spend two weeks at home and here I am."

“Where ya from?” Kevin asked.

"Hawaii, born and raised," she answered and added, because to a local that wouldn't be nearly enough, "Originally, Hanalei, its a town on Kauai but after college, I joined Honolulu PD so that would be Oahu."

“I’ve always wanted to go there,” he said. “Never got the opportunity though,” he said. “I’ve had some good assignments in my time though. Just came in from New York last night I was working on the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Anyway, it’ll be good to have you on the team. Did you do any investigative work before you came to the Coast Guard?”

"I made detective my first year in HPD." She shrugged, a slight shift on her right shoulder. "Made connections between some low-tech, unrelated events. Ended up exposing a home-grown terrorist cell. After that, I worked as a detective while I finished my degree."

“Very nice,” he said. “Well welcome aboard. Find yourself a desk and let the yeoman know your pick… we are leaving Wednesday to spend a month in Cape May so don’t get too comfortable. Make sure your IT profile is up to date, grab a building ID for office access, and draw your equipment. I’ll give vehicles assignments out later today.. and catch you up on our first team assignment as well.”

Kamea nodded. "Well then, I'll put off house hunting until we get back."

“Probably not a bad idea,” he said. “I did mine online but I was in this area before so I knew the building I wanted to get into. Friends of mine used to live there… anyway if there’s anything I can do or if you have any questions, let me know,” he said.

"Thank you," Kamea said, "I'll do that but for now, if there's nothing else, I'll get started on the rest."

“Dismissed,” Kevin said, simply. “Welcome again.”
