Help is Coming

Posted on 04 May 2021 @ 2:04pm by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Kevin Roe & Police Officer Brian Lamar

Episode: S1E1: Back to Basic
Location: Telephone
Timeline: 3 MAY 2021, 1003

After the team's first meeting he went to his office and found that his IT profile had finally been updated. He browsed through his emails and through the files he now had access to and some other team-specific things. Then he quickly went down to his car to grab a box of personal items for his office mostly framed certificates and various items he was given or collected throughout his career. He had set the box down on a shelf in his office and then moved to his desk again having other things to attend to first.

He made a quick search on the coast guard website and dialed the police station. He introduced himself as being from the CGIS Regional Office and requested to speak to the police chief. It took a few minutes but he was finally transferred and he began to pull up outlook and began typing out an email with his contact information while he waited for him to answer.

"Greetings, this is Chief Lamar," Brian answered after their secretary forwarded the call.

"Good morning, Chief, I'm Kevin Roe, Supervisory Special Agent with CGIS. I'll be leading the team that is coming up to Cape May to cover the office. How are you?" he asked.

"Understaffed, overworked, and tired of the bull-shit but otherwise good," He said with a chuckle. He had gotten an email about the CGIS team coming soon and was glad to finally put a voice to the name. "How are you today?"

"Fine, thank you for asking," Kevin said. "I just wanted to touch base with you so I could share contact details and the like. I am planning on us arriving Wednesday and setting up shop on Thursday."

"Glad to hear on both accounts. We are looking forward to your arrival. I have a stack of cases that are backlogged that I just don't have the manpower to handle." Brian said with almost a sigh of relief. Know how much closer we was to getting back to, what he hoped, a normal workload.

"Yeah, I'm not completely surprised that they shorthanded the office up there but no investigators at all is a whole new level," Kevin said, shaking his head. He hit the speakerphone button and set the handset down and turned to his computer.

"What's your first name, Chief?" Kevin asked, "I want to send you off an email with my direct contact information, and if you could send me back yours that would be fantastic."

"Of course, Brian Lamar." Brian responded as he heard another email come through. "Hopefully we won't overwhelm your team with all the cases pending."

"I'm sure it can't be that bad," Kevin said, wondering what exactly was piled up. He would stay true to his plan and not worry about that until Thursday morning but he also was going to be sure and only take on the cases that legitimately should be handled by the CGIS instead of local PD. "Anyway, I plan on being in town Wednesday afternoon, you want to meet up for dinner and discuss our operations plan?"

"Honestly, it isn't that bad. However, with limited staff here, it seems far worst." Brian said with a light chuckle. "I look forward to it."

"I'll shoot you a text when I get to Cape May and we can make plans for after I get settled into quarters," he suggested. "I'll chat with you soon, Chief," Kevin, said and when the man responded in kind he hit the end button on his desktop phone.
